We are two best friends, Jessica and Emily, WELCOME TO OUR STORY!
As two best friends stepping into our thirties, we sat down and had a “moment” or maybe a “realization”? Or maybe one glass of wine too many?…Ah heck who knows! When you are stepping into a new era of life with your best friend by your side, sometimes things just hit different. It’s like one moment you were running around town until 3 AM and the next you are creating mini best friends of your own.
All the memories we shared, adventures we fulfilled, and the countless hours dreaming about our future, yet we were both still craving something more. A way to follow our passions and make a mark on the world. Little did we know, this craving would lead us here, to Mōhala, fulfilling our shared entrepreneurial spirit through a brand built on trust, shared dreams, and a love for adventure.
Emily was working as a nurse and had recently become a new mom. The desire for flexibility and the opportunity to spend more time with her growing family fueled her motivation to explore something new. Jessica was working as a finance professional, but was seeking a change and an outlet to pursue her creative side. It was the perfect time for us both to take a leap!

With family rooted in the islands, we feel a deep connection to it’s culture, beauty, and the relaxed island lifestyle. We wanted to share the aloha spirit with others, and bring a piece of Hawaii to people’s lives. Inspired by the breathtaking landscapes, laid-back lifestyle, and the deep sense of community, we decided to create a brand that captured the essence of the islands. From clothing to home decor, sandy beiges to lush greens, we delve into the allure of neutral colors and their timeless appeal.
The name Mōhala is a Hawaiian word which means “to blossom” or “to open”, particularly in reference to flowers or plants. Read our blog “The Meaning” to Learn More. In a broader sense, “Mōhala” can also be used metaphorically to describe personal growth, enlightenment, and the unfolding of potential in a person’s life. This word held value to us, and takes us back to that very leap, that lead us here today.
We understood that starting a business is never easy, and we encountered our fair share of challenges along the way. From sourcing quality products to building brand awareness, we faced hurdles that tested our resilience. However, our friendship and shared vision kept us going. We learned to lean on each other for support, sought advice from mentors, and continuously adapted our strategies to overcome obstacles. We carefully curated a collection of products, from clothing and accessories to home decor and beach essentials, that embodied the spirit of Hawaii and our own personal style.
Are we there yet?
After months of hard work, dedication, and a little bit of Hawaiian magic, our online store has finally launched! The response from customers has exceeded our expectations. We want people to resonate with our brand's authenticity and harmony between nature and style that we infused into every product. Seeing our vision come to life has been incredible, but sharing our brand with you has been nothing short of extraordinary. We couldn’t do it without all of your continued support!
